Here's my (Lisa's) attempt to let you know what Jacob is up to these
days. I make no promises about how often I will updated this page, but I
will do my very best to tell you all of the good stuff. So, here we go:

 | November 2001:
 | 11/12/01: We change the Co-Sleeper into a "pack and
play". Jacob slept in the co-sleeper which was like a
bassinet attached to our bed. But, since he started pulling up he
was almost falling out of it, so we had to change it into the modern
version of a play-pen. He is still sleeping in Mom and Dad's room
because he gets up a few times during the night. I think that
night-time is one of Jacob's favorite times to nurse....he knows that
this is a way to get into Mommy's bed. |
 | 11/10/01: Great Granny and Aunt Sandra come to visit. On Saturday we
went to a very nice park on the West Orange Trail to play. Jacob
hung out with Great Granny and took a ride on the swings. |
 | 11/9/01: Jacob can pull himself up into a standing position.
He's pulling up on everything he can reach! |
 | 11/6/01: This week you are sitting up all by yourself. |
 | 11/3/01: Uncle Kevin and the band Wiles End come to visit. |
|
 | October 2001:
 | This month Jacob learned to do a lot of things. He started out
sitting up with help and by the end of the month he can sit up all by
himself. One day he decided he wanted to get something out of
reach, so he started crawling...with his belly on the floor. He's
very fast at scooting along all around the house. |
 | 10/31/01: 1st Halloween. Jacob was dressed as a Jestur and
he was very funny. We went trick-or-treating in our neighborhood
and Jacob fell asleep in the stroller while Jordan knocked on doors. |
 | 10/16/01: 6 month check up! Only 1 shot today and
not even 1 tear came with it. What a brave boy you are!
Today's weight is 17 lbs. 3 oz., length is 27 1/4" long, and head
is 17 inches around. He's right on the 50th percentile for weight
and head size and he is in the 85th percentile for height. Jacob
now wears size 12 month clothes (but not for long) and wears a size 3
baby shoe. He really has a big foot! Here's what Jacob's diet
includes: rice cereal with apples or bananas, plain bananas, carrots,
sweet-potatoes and sometimes oatmeal cereal with peaches & bananas.
He's still breastfeeding and does NOT like bottles! When away from
mommy, you're lucky to get 4oz of formula down him, so most people opt
to feed him cereal since he'll take that much easier. Jacob loves
playing with big sister Jordan and laughing at Daddy, but most of all he
loves to be held by Mommy. He still wakes up 1-2 times per night
to feed. These feedings are usually very short, basically he just
likes to have a snack and get in bed with Mommy. Then around
7:00am he has a big breakfast which is between 30-60 minutes of
nursing. If you will remember, Jacob was born with a little bit of
dark hair, which all fell out. Well, he's growing his hair back
and it is very blonde. I'm sure that he's going to have blonde
hair just like Jordan. |
 | 10/11/01: Watch out world....Jacob can roll both ways now. He
finally managed to make it from back to belly. Even though we knew
he could do this for about a month now, he didn't know how to control
himself. Before He'd make it to his belly and then he'd just push
himself back to where he started. But every since today, he can
roll where ever he wants...in any direction. |
 | 10/5/01: Jacob starts running a fever, he was sick with a virus for
about a week. First a fever, then a head cold. He was nice
enough to even share the cold with his big sister the next week (haha). |
|
 | September 2001:
 | 9/28/01: Jacob's first trip to Pace, Fl. This was Jacob's
longest trip yet. A 7 hour car ride to Pace, FL to visit his
MawMaw Laney for her birthday. This is also the first time PawPaw
Jack got to see Jacob in person. Jacob did OK in the car. He
only cried 2 hours on the way there and 1 hour on the way home. |
 | 9/11/01: Jacob & Jordan were on their way to Ms. Yvette's house for
daycare when the terrorists struck NewYork. |
 | 9/6/01: Jacob goes to the Dr. for Bronchiolitis, basically it's a chest
cold. He has to have breathing treatments for a few days. Today he
weighs 15lbs 6oz. On Monday 9/10/01 he went back to the Dr. for a
check-up and was much better, we were able to stop giving him the breathing
treatments. |
 | 9/3/01: Trip to Daytona Beach. Jacob didn't get to go into the ocean
but he hung out at the hotel pool with PaWarner and Daddy while Mommy, MaDeb,
and Jordan played on the beach. |
 | 9/1/01: Grandparents Kelley come to visit. Jacob loved being held by
his PaWarner. He thought in his arms was the perfect place to sleep |
|
 | August 2001:
 | 8/14/01: 4 month Dr's visit. Today Jacob had to have 4 injections
(OUCH!) but he did very well. He did surprise Dr. Guyton when she was
opening his diaper he caught her off guard and sprayed her with pee.
She really thought it was funny. She said in all of her years as a
Pediatrician, that was only the 4th time she ever had that happen.
Jacob is growing right on track and is in the 75th percentile for height
& weight. He now weighs 14 pounds 10 ounces, is 25 3/4 inches
long, and his head size is 16 inches. |
 | 8/8/2001: Hurray!!! Jacob rolled from his tummy to his back.
It was around 9:00am when he was having some tummy time and mom looked down
and "ta-da" Jacob was on his back. I grabbed the video
camera and he did it again. He really looked a bit surprised. |
 | 8/5/2001: Today Jacob ate some rice cereal for the first
time. He really thought it was yummy! Later today he also had
fun sitting in the activity saucer for the first time. |
 | 8/4/2001: Jacob took his first major car trip. We went to
Jacksonville to visit the McNair's and our newest second cousin
Zachary. Great-Granny Jordan, Great-Aunt Sandra, and an even greater
Aunt Bea were all there. It was a fun day and Jacob was wore out for
the trip home. |
|
 | July 2001:
 | 7/23/2001: Last week we had a major developmental advancement. On Sunday
night (7/15/2001) Jacob slept through the night for the 1st time. He
went to sleep about 9:00 and slept until 5:00am (WOW!). He hasn't done
quite as well since that night but he has been sleeping at least 5hrs
straight, which seems like a lot to me. He's really loosing a whole
lot of hair and I'm afraid he will be bald soon. I just wonder if it
will grow back blonde like Jordan's. He's doing great at trying to
grab and play with some toys and he is now able to raise his head and
shoulders several inches off the ground (like he's doing sit-ups). He
has really got a hold of getting his left thumb into his mouth and it seems
like he's chewing on it all day. He even prefers his thumb to a
pacifier. Jacob has now almost grown out of all of his 3-6month old
clothes, they are just too short for him. So we have started trying
out some of his 6-9month old stuff. It looks as if we will continue
breastfeeding for quite a while. Jacob really doesn't like a bottle and
doesn't like the taste of formula. When he goes to daycare we have to
mix 1/2 breast milk and 1/2 formula to get him to eat while he's there, one
a few occasions when he was offered just formula he refused to eat all
day. I guess that means he's very smart for his age....he already
knows that Mommy's milk is best! |
|
 | June 2001:
 | 6/20/2001: Jacob decided he wanted to play with his toys
today. While sitting in his bouncy seat and then again later while
lying on the floor, he started hitting the toys that hang from his
"lights and sounds gym". He really seemed to be having a lot
of fun. And today I am celebrating 2 nights of extended sleep. Both
nights he slept from about 9:00pm-2:00am and the woke up again at
5:30. We consider this as only getting up once during the night, which
is so much easier than the 3-4 times per night that we have become used to. |
 | 6/18/2001: Today Jacob had a 2 month well baby check-up. Dr.
Guyton said he's looking great and is right on track developmentally.
He weighs 13 pounds (even), and is 25 inches tall (He's in the 97th
percentile for height). Dr. Guyton said that most babies his age are
not able to bring their knees up to their chest like he is able to do, she
said that they are usually a little older before they can do this. So
this means that he will probably be rolling around and getting into things
sooner than we expect. He had to get 4 injection, 2 in each leg for
his vaccinations. He was very unhappy about this and is a little
irritable tonight as a result. |
 | 6/8/2001: Let me stop and tell you a little about what we've been up
to lately. Jacob is growing so fast. He has had some day's where
he's a little fussy in the evening time but he's getting much better about
not crying so much the past few days. He eats every 2-3 hours and
still wakes up during the night every few hours to eat. He is still
breastfeeding and likes to nurse about 15min. I think he must get
about 3oz at each feeding. He has a little confusion between breast
and bottle so we try not to let him have much milk from the bottle.
Some night's he wakes up more often than others. But he's up at least
2 times during each night to eat. He usually stays awake a few hours
in the morning (7-11:00am) and then again from 4-9:00pm. Jordan comes home around 4pm so he's busy watching her run around. Jordan loves to
give Jacob kisses and to give him his pacifier (even when Jacob doesn't want
it). I try to take the kids on a walk after 5:00 because they love to
go outside. It's been a little hot and on some days we've had rain, so
sometimes we have to take a short walk or skip it all together. He's
now growing out of his little 0-3month old clothes and started to move into
the bigger stuff (3-6mo). He smiles a lot and is really trying to hold
his head up all by himself. He's favorite spot is in someone's arms but
if he must be sat down, he prefers the vibrating bouncy seat. I can't believe how much he's grown. |

 | May 2001:
 | 5/30/2001: Dr Appt: Weight = 12lbs 8 oz. |
 | 5/18/2001: First night that Rachael and Sarah baby-sit while mom
& dad go to dinner to celebrate Lisa's birthday! |

head = 14 1/4inches. |
 | 5/4/2001: His umbilical cord falls off! Hurray!!!! Today he
had his first bath in a tub of water! |
 | 5/1/2001: First Bottle. Mom had to run up to her work and
Grandparents Grimes and Big Sister Jordan watched him. With the help
of Grandma Grimes, Jordan gave Jacob his first bottle. |
|
 | April 2001:
 | 4/30/2001: First Outing. We went to Mom's work. |
 | 4/28/2001: This weekend Jacob was introduced to his Great Aunt Sandra,
Great Aunt Elaine & Uncle Mac, and cousins Clinton, Little Clint,
Amanda, Ty, Melissa, Billy, Mary, and Stephen |
 | 4/26/2001: Uncle Kevin comes to Orlando to meet his new nephew. |
 | 4/19/2001: Mom gave Jacob his first sponge bath at home. |
 | 4/17/2001: We came home from the hospital around 5:30 that evening. |
 | 4/16/2001: IT'S A BOY!!!! born at 11:05am. Weight = 8lbs 5oz,
length 20 1/4inches. Here is his birthstory from Lisa's perspective:
Jacob was due on 4/20/2001 but Lisa's dr (Dr. Lazar) decided to induce
early. We were scheduled to be at the hospital at 4:00AM. We
woke up at 2:45am when I (Lisa) complained of Horrible Back pains. I
asked Gene to snuggle up to me to support my back and he reached his arm
around my giant belly and said "You're back hurts because you're having
contractions." So I started having contractions before we were
even at the hospital. Gene, Lisa, and MawMaw Laney (Gene's mom), left
for the hospital at 3:30AM. We arrived at Arnold Palmer and waited to
be taken to a room, around 5:00AM we made it to the room and by 5:30 or so,
they started the Pitocin drip which causes contractions. When we
arrived I was only dilated 2cm so we thought it might be awhile before Jacob
arrived. Early in the morning Grandparents Grimes (Lisa's Mom and Dad)
and then Pa Warner (Gene's father) came to the hospital to wait. Ma
Deb (Gene's Step-mom) and Great-Granny Florence waited at home with
Jordan. The Dr broke my water around 6:30 (I think) and soon after I
really started hurting, I was still only 3cm. At 3 1/2cm. I was
offered the epidural and I happily accepted the offer. It was probably
9:30am when the nurse checked me and said I was progressing quickly. I
had to have more of the epidural because I had started to hurt again.
It didn't seem like it was much later maybe 10:30 when I felt a LOT OF
PRESSURE and I had mother find the nurse. She came in and said that I
was completely dilated and the baby was ready to go. So she had me
take a "practice push" to see how well I could push with the
epidural. She said that I pushed just great and that she needed to get
Dr. Lazar. So he came in and asked me to push 1 time for him, which I
did. At this point I could really feel Jacob beginning to be
born. I was instructed to NOT PUSH anymore so that they could get the
bed ready and all the stuff they needed together. I felt very
"out of control" at this point, I waited through 3 sets of
contractions and it seemed hard not to push, but I remember looking at Gene
and he appeared to be so calm and he had a little grin on his face as he
watched everything happen. Finally the Dr told me to push for the 3rd
and final time, and "ta-da" Jacob was here. It was
such a joy to finally hold our beautiful baby boy! |
